Points of Interest
For most of the 20th century this area was just another lovely section of Arkansas with small towns connected by trails and dirt roads. But in 1959, with the construction of Greers Ferry Dam, a cultural revolution started...

Greers Ferry Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed construction of the Greers Ferry Dam and President John F. Kennedy officiated the Public Dedication in 1963, making Greers Ferry Lake a reality.

Above: Sugarloaf Mountain, surrounded by Greers Ferry Lake, is a favorite spot for hikers, picnickers, and nature photographers. Located 9 nautical miles southeast of Holley Mountain, the mountaintop lends a spectacular view from the Airpark..

The dam, which is 1,704 feet long and 243 feet high, and surrounding Ozark Mountains, form a 40,000-acre  body of water that is 50 miles long with 343  miles of shoreline.

Greers Ferry Lake is one of the cleanest and most pollution-free in the nation, providing an excellent playground for fishermen, water skiers, scuba divers, and anyone seeking fun in the sun. The lake is dotted with first rate marinas and boat docks, plus over 1,200 public and private camp sites. Average elevation of the lake is 461 ft msl. Elevation of the lake at top flood control pool is 487 ft msl.
