DECEMBER 2002
It has been a busy month at Holley
Mountain. One of those times when a choice had to be made between "doing"
and "telling." Thus the November edition of this little newsletter
remained online well past it's time and remains in the adjoining column of
this page now.
But, with the few remaining days of
the holiday season upon us, there is time to share a smattering of useful
news.
For starters, have a look at
this memo
from Dale Temple, Arkansas Skywarn Emergency Coordinator, and learn
about the vital role that all of us in the Skywarn network play during
times of a communications emergency.
Next up, be advised (and hopefully
thrilled to learn) that our team of
Holleyfest
planners are busily at work, creating a spectacular agenda for our 2003
event, which will, in recognition of the Wright Brothers 100 year
anniversary, be a lift-off "Centennial Celebration of Flight!!!
More news about this will be
forthcoming in the February edition of this online newsletter... but don't
wait until then to mark your calendars for our Holleyfest fly-in/camp-out,
September 12 & 13, 2003, and you might even want to
make
reservations now.
A word to the wise here, local
accommodations booked-up very quickly last year, so if your idea of
camping involves a motel, you will want to plan in advance.
Lastly for this time around, I
personally encourage you to have a look at the Holley Mountain Chapter
AR01 of the United States Pilots Assocaition (USPA)
website -- and not
just because I built it and thusly believe it looks pretty good...!!!
Yet I'll be up front to say that I do
have an ulterior agenda, being that if you are not already a member of the
USPA, I'm
personally encouraging you to get involved.
Besides the fact that this is a great
group of people (and I know this because I know them), there are important
decisions being made in the world of aviation today and all of us who have
opinions about this have a "group effort" responsibility to uphold.
More importantly, we're a fun bunch of
people (Did I mention that I'm the Interim Secretary of our Holley
Mountain group?) and we'd welcome your wholehearted participation with
open arms.
In fact, on Saturday, February 15,
12noon we're having a "bring-your-dish" <wink!> Valentines Day "Think Red,
White & Pink" potluck luncheon. And we'd be pleased to see you there.
So, that's the long and the short of
it for the moment. Except to say, from all of us and our neighbors here in
the majestic Arkansas Ozarks, to each of you anywhere else, we wish only
the simple things of life for you and yours, now and throughout this and
every season, we wish for you only the finest and the best.
Happy Holidays,
Christine Weiss

NOVEMBER 2002
Hello Friends,
Just giving you another heads up to
changing things !
Starting this next week, Christine
Weiss that has been the publicist for the Airpark since 1999, is going to
take over the in house duties of the Holley Mountain Airpark website from
Kenny Blalock. When we started in 1999, with Kenny, he said he was good at
start up websites and there would come a day when we would need more.
Christine and Kenny are working together to make this transition. All
involved feel it is best for us to advance our website, as goes the
development of the Airpark.
Kenny, might have called it a start up website, however I think you will
all agree with me:
" It was one hell of
a start up website !! "
Our hats are off to Kenny for that !!
He will also continue to be a center piece of the Airpark Group, as he will
be Airboss again next year for Holleyfest 2003 and hopefully many, many
more years after that !
As for the new site.......Christine will be using some of the latest
techniques displaying the website..... Graphics, Motions, Video, Sounds &
multi-level marketing tracking. It will take her a while to get it where
we all want it to be, however when we get it to that point it will never
get old, as changes will be done in-house and very often.
More exciting news came just a few
short weeks ago when Holley Mountain Airpark became the home of
the very first Chapter of the
United States Pilots Association to organize anywhere!
Also, there has been an additional 63 acres of land
added to the Airpark grounds, making the Airpark a total of 506 acres.
This purchase facilitates the
new entry into the Airpark
along with the new automated gate system. This makes the entryway a real
eye catcher plus gives more security.

The system also has a telephone controller
interface that has a residence listing in it so the property owners
actually control the entry of their own guests. This entry looks good in
the photos, but it is a sight to behold in person.
A CLIMB MADE EASY !!!!

How did we do it before we bought " Airpark Snorkel
15". Yep, you guessed it, the HARD WAY !!
Beacon work, Antenna work,.... ole Snorkel 15 makes hard and almost
impossible jobs around the Airpark "almost" a pleasure. We
also replaced a county fire repeater antenna and made a close up
inspection of the Arkansas Skywarn antennas.
It took so long to get them, I am going to mention
them once again…….Holley Mountain Airpark
Instrument Approaches have been published since June 13th, 2002.
As of this writing the following home constructions
are either underway or scheduled for late 2002 or early 2003:
We hope all of you stand proud, as we
do, with this heady progress !
